Updates Regarding the Regulation of Paramedics

Tena Koutou Katoa,
Nga mihi nui, Koutou, he maanakitanga ki te mahi ano, no reira tena Koutou, tena Koutou, tena Koutou.
On the 24th June the appointment of the inaugural Te Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council (the Council) was Gazetted – an historic moment indeed.
Following on from the extensive work the Paramedic Registration Advisory Group has been undertaking since the inclusion of the Council under the HPCA Act late last year, the Council will now take up the mantle and continue to put the processes and systems in place to enable paramedic registration to be realised in the coming months.

We would like to congratulate the new Council members on their appointment:
Appointments to the Council.

Pursuant to section 120 of the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, the Minister of Health has appointed:
  • Bronwyn Tunnage

Dated at Dunedin this 21st day of June 2020.

Hon Dr DAVID CLARK, Minister of Health.

We would like to especially recognise the members of Te Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Registration Advisory group for their commitment to progress paramedic regulation, and especially the immense support received from the Nursing Council of New Zealand who have been fantastic to work with. The Advisory group holds its last meeting on 3 July and will formally hand over to the Council following that. It is expected that the Council will hold its first meeting in late July and will elect a chairperson at that meeting.
We wish the  Council every success on the important voyage to implementing Paramedic Registration – He waka eke noa.

Ngā mihi
David Waters – Chair, Paramedic Registration Advisory.
